AFC Energy Delivers its Most Powerful Hydrogen Generator to Date

AFC Energy PLC has achieved a significant milestone with the successful delivery and operation of its highest-rated power generator to date - the 200kW H-Power system. This system is a part of the company's new S+ Series, marking AFC Energy's entry into the high-power class of hydrogen fuel cell power plants. This development builds on the company's established presence in the light- to medium-duty generator sector, which includes generators rated below 50kW.

Chief Executive Adam Bond hailed this achievement as a "significant milestone" after two years of accelerated technology development and engineering work. "AFC Energy is now uniquely placed to offer its customers and partners the full range of power solutions from 10kW through to 500kW across its H-Power platforms, giving maximum choice when sizing generators for specific power needs," Bond stated.

The S+ Series is designed to achieve peak system efficiency, offering one of the lowest hydrogen fuel consumption rates in its class. This positions AFC Energy to cater to high-power applications such as electric vehicle (EV) charging, construction, maritime operations, and data centres. The 200kW generator is currently undergoing in-house operational testing, a precursor to obtaining Attestation of Conformity and CE marking certification, which is expected later this year. These certifications are crucial for verifying that the product meets the essential health, safety, and environmental protection requirements for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA).

In a message to investors, CEO Bond emphasised, "We continue to progress our drive to offer a commercially and technically viable alternative off-grid power solution to diesel. We are now positioned to access higher power class opportunities not previously available with the S Series Generator series. Congratulations to the entire team for the long hours committed to delivering the S+ Series Generator."

The 200kW H-Power generator, designed and developed in collaboration with ABB e-Mobility, utilises the latest generation S+ Series liquid-cooled fuel cell technology. This technology "unlocks peak system efficiency" and boasts one of the lowest hydrogen fuel consumptions of any fuel cell generator in its power class. The platform can offer modularised power ranges from 100kW to 500kW, complementing the existing S Series Generator platform that offers 10kW to 50kW systems.

The development and successful operation of the 200kW generator reflect two years of accelerated technology advancement and engineering efforts. Bond reiterated, "This is a significant milestone for AFC Energy, reflecting two years of accelerated technology development and engineering works culminating in this successful first operation."

The successful delivery of the 200kW H-Power system not only showcases AFC Energy's technological prowess but also marks a strategic expansion into higher power applications. By offering a range of power solutions, the company can now meet diverse market needs, from small-scale operations to large-scale industrial applications.

Last year, AFC Energy and Speedy Hire launched a dedicated hydrogen generator plant hire business to provide the UK construction and temporary power sector with zero-emission solutions. This partnership exemplifies AFC Energy's commitment to delivering sustainable and efficient power solutions, addressing the growing demand for environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional diesel generators.

The upcoming Attestation of Conformity and CE marking certification will further solidify the 200kW H-Power system's market position, ensuring it meets stringent health, safety, and environmental standards. As the world increasingly shifts towards cleaner energy solutions, AFC Energy's innovations in hydrogen fuel cell technology position the company at the forefront of the green energy revolution.

In summary, AFC Energy's delivery of the 200kW H-Power generator marks a pivotal moment in the company's history, highlighting its capability to provide scalable, efficient, and eco-friendly power solutions. With ongoing testing and certification processes underway, AFC Energy is set to expand its market presence and contribute significantly to the global transition towards sustainable energy.
