GRIDSERVE Powers Ahead: Record-Breaking Year for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure in 2023

In a monumental stride towards sustainable transportation, GRIDSERVE, a leading player in the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure sector, marked a historic year in 2023. The company achieved a groundbreaking milestone by installing the highest number of High Power EV charging bays in its history, with over 300 added across Electric Super Hubs and Electric Retail Hubs.

The record-setting December alone witnessed more High Power charging bays opening in one month than throughout the entirety of 2022. The expansion includes the operationalistion of new Electric Super Hubs, Electric Retail Hubs, and the charging stations at the cutting-edge London Gatwick Electric Forecourt.

As a result of this rapid expansion, the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway now boasts over 1,200 charging bays, hosting an impressive 180,000 charging sessions each month. Throughout 2023, GRIDSERVE facilitated over 1.9 million charging sessions, contributing to more than 160 million zero-emission miles. The surge in EV adoption, particularly during the Great British summer getaway, led to August being recorded as the busiest month, with Fridays emerging as the peak day for charging activities.

Toddington Harper, the CEO of GRIDSERVE, expressed his enthusiasm about the company's achievements in 2023. He stated, "It has been another fantastic year for GRIDSERVE and the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway. We are committed to delivering the best EV charging possible at locations where drivers need them most and will continue working as hard as possible with our partners to ensure class-leading charging experiences."

The growth in 2023 involved strategic partnerships, notably with Moto and Roadchef, resulting in the installation of Electric Super Hubs at Motorway Service Areas. These hubs, equipped with a minimum of six 350kW-capable chargers each, play a crucial role in facilitating quick and efficient charging for drivers on busy motorways and A-roads.

Continuing the rollout at Moto sites, GRIDSERVE introduced Electric Super Hubs at new locations, including Moto Kinross, Moto Cardiff West, and Moto Blyth. Meanwhile, the partnership with Roadchef yielded the opening of Electric Super Hubs at locations such as Roadchef Watford Gap North and South, Chester, Sandbach, Clacket Lane East and West, and Maidstone. More Electric Super Hub locations are set to open in the upcoming year.

The GRIDSERVE Electric Highway also expanded with the introduction of new Electric Retail Hubs, making charging more accessible at local garden centres and retail parks.

Electric Forecourts, a pivotal component of the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway, remain a focal point for the company's expansion strategy. The London Gatwick Electric Forecourt, with 30 charging bays now open, provides essential charging infrastructure for those traveling during the busy Christmas period. Construction has commenced on the next Electric Forecourt at Stevenage, scheduled to open in late 2024, precisely 50 years after the first-ever Knebworth Festival in 1974, emphasizing GRIDSERVE's commitment to the long-term growth of sustainable transportation infrastructure in the UK.

As Toddington Harper looks ahead, he stated, "We are looking forward to accelerating the rollout of reliable High Power charging across the UK at speed and scale in 2024 and beyond." The remarkable achievements of 2023 set the stage for GRIDSERVE to continue leading the way in advancing the EV charging landscape, driving the nation towards a cleaner and greener future.
