Lhyfe Increases Hydrogen Operations in Sheffield to Drive the UK's Green Economy

Lhyfe, a key player in the global hydrogen industry, has strategically chosen Sheffield as the location for its latest expansion, aiming to spearhead hydrogen research and support businesses in their transition to Net Zero. This move comes as the company seeks to accelerate the widespread adoption of hydrogen fuel in the region, aligning with the UK government's ambitious targets for low-carbon hydrogen production.

Lhyfe's decision to establish a base in Sheffield is grounded in the city's pivotal role in the development of the UK's hydrogen economy. Stuart Sinclair, Head of Offshore Deployment for the UK and Ireland at Lhyfe, emphasised Sheffield's exceptional supply chain potential, strong industry connections, and its status as a hub for world-leading hydrogen research and development.

The newly established office in Sheffield will be situated in the Wizu Workspace in the city centre, symbolising Lhyfe's commitment to actively engage with the local community. Stuart Sinclair will lead the Sheffield office, and Lhyfe aims to forge links with academia, particularly with ongoing high-profile hydrogen research projects at the University of Sheffield.

Collaboration with academic institutions, such as the University of Sheffield, underscores Lhyfe's commitment to advancing hydrogen research. The company recognises the importance of academic partnerships in driving innovation and staying at the forefront of technological advancements in the hydrogen sector.

Since the launch of its UK operations in 2022, Lhyfe has experienced significant growth, with the team expanding to six members. Currently, the company is actively recruiting to further bolster its workforce, especially in areas related to plant deployment. This growth aligns with Lhyfe's ambitious plans for hydrogen production across Europe.

Lhyfe, with its bases in Sheffield and Newcastle, will leverage these facilities to actively explore production sites and partnerships globally. This expansion strategy aligns with the company's vision to contribute to the development of a global hydrogen ecosystem.

Lhyfe's ambitious production targets align with the UK government's commitment to doubling low-carbon hydrogen production from 5GW to 10GW by 2030. The emphasis on green hydrogen production is in line with environmental sustainability goals, with the government aiming for at least half of the targeted 10GW to come from green hydrogen.

Colin Brown, Lhyfe's UK and Ireland Country Manager, expressed confidence in the regional green hydrogen ecosystems, emphasising the inclusive nature of the development plans. The establishment of the Sheffield office reflects Lhyfe's dedication to contributing to regional economies of scale while fostering a sustainable and open approach to hydrogen production.
