New Electric Super Hub to Open at Chester Services
GRIDSERVE and Roadchef are pleased to announce their latest Electric Super Hub at Chester Services, strategically located at junction 14 on the M56 motorway. These two companies have recently unveiled plans to enhance their electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at Roadchef Motorway Service Areas across the UK. This initiative follows the successful establishment of the first two hubs at Watford Gap North and South (M1) in September.
This development coincides with the introduction of Roadchef's inaugural Super 8 roadside hotel, which underscores the growing demand for EV charging options. The hotel boasts 12 high-power chargers and six AC chargers on-site, providing customers with overnight charging solutions.
Additional locations will soon feature similar hubs, each equipped with a minimum of six 350kW-capable chargers. These locations include Bothwell (M74), Annandale Water (A74(M)), and Sandbach (M6). All GRIDSERVE Electric Super Hubs offer both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors, accept contactless payments, and provide real-time updates on charging status to numerous popular EV charging maps. Notably, these chargers are powered by 100% net-zero carbon energy derived from the company's hybrid solar and battery farms.
As of now, Roadchef has installed over 40 GRIDSERVE Medium Power chargers and 24 standalone AC chargers across 29 sites. Expect further expansion of EV charging facilities as the plans gain momentum, with announcements extending into 2024.
Toddington Harper, CEO of GRIDSERVE, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "We are delighted to inaugurate another Electric Super Hub in collaboration with Roadchef. This serves as a prime example of deploying the right chargers in precisely the right locations. We've introduced High Power chargers to cater to those seeking a swift top-up, enabling drivers to expedite their journeys. Concurrently, our AC chargers offer convenient overnight charging for those drivers who wish to recharge while resting. We eagerly anticipate continuing our partnership with Roadchef to deliver a dependable, fast, and widespread charging network."
Paul Comer, Director of EV Implementation at Roadchef, added, "Building on the recent success of launching our initial Electric Super Hubs at Watford Gap North and South, we are thrilled to further our Electric Super Hub project at Chester. As the number of EVs on the road increases, it is imperative to expand and upgrade our facilities to meet this growing demand, especially for our customers staying at our new Super 8 hotel who require overnight charging options. The rollout of our Electric Super Hubs in collaboration with GRIDSERVE represents a significant step towards achieving our goal of supporting Britain's journey towards a safer and more sustainable future."
