Permission Granted for Gridserve Electric Forecourt in Markham Vale

Approval has been granted for the establishment of a new GRIDSERVE Electric Forecourt in Markham Vale, situated near the M1 in Derbyshire. This upcoming facility will incorporate 25 High Power chargers, capable of delivering up to 350kW of power, enabling a rapid charge of up to 100 miles of driving range within just under 10 minutes. Alongside these, five AC chargers will provide up to 22kW of power. It's noteworthy that all of these charging stations will be powered by 100% renewable energy, as part of GRIDSERVE’s Sun-to-Wheel ecosystem.

The Markham Vale location, which is a collaborative effort between property developer HBD and Derbyshire County Council, and is oriented towards industrial and logistics development, has already resulted in the creation of over 2,700 jobs across more than 75 businesses within a substantial 2.2 million square feet of space.

The addition of this new forecourt will effectively double the availability of public charging stations within the Chesterfield Borough area. Construction is anticipated to commence in late 2023, with the forecourt expected to commence operations in the latter half of 2024. Other locations, such as Norwich and Braintree, where similar forecourts have been established, have witnessed an uptick in electric vehicle registrations since their inauguration. GRIDSERVE asserts that this surge can be attributed to the confidence of local residents in transitioning to electric vehicles.

GRIDSERVE's third Electric Forecourt, located at London Gatwick Airport, is set to open later in 2023. Planning permission has also been secured for sites in Nevendon, Gateshead, Plymouth, and Stevenage, with over 30 more sites currently in various stages of development.

Raoul Tufnell, GRIDSERVE's Chief Development Officer, expressed enthusiasm over the approval of planning for this significant location. Tufnell underscored their dedication to providing reliable EV charging infrastructure and their aspiration to hasten the shift towards e-mobility by creating positive charging experiences at their flagship Electric Forecourts. The company is eager to initiate operations at this new site and anticipates its opening in the coming year.

David Wells, Director at HBD, conveyed satisfaction over their collaboration with GRIDSERVE to bring about this latest addition to their national network. He praised Markham Vale's ideal positioning and emphasized the role this investment plays in bolstering Chesterfield's net-zero infrastructure. Wells also highlighted the ongoing development of the approximately 18 acres of available land at Markham Vale.
