Bridgend Enhance Zero Emission Transport Services
Marubeni Europower and Hyppo Hydrogen Solutions have agreed to enhance their collaboration in providing zero-emission transport services to Bridgend, Wales.
A hydrogen powered fuel cell car using locally sourced green hydrogen has been offering vital services to customers of Bridgend Community Transport, including transportation to medical appointments and hospitals.
In addition, a hydrogen fuel cell bus transported passengers between Bridgend train station and the Royal Porthcawl golf club during the Senior Open golf tournament.
Tomoki Nishino, CEO of Marubeni Europower, stated, "We believe that hydrogen-powered vehicles are crucial for improving air quality and supporting Welsh decarbonisation goals. We are pleased to partner with Hyppo and local stakeholders to address air pollution and climate change."
Marubeni Europower proudly operates a green hydrogen production and refuelling facility at Brynmenyn Industrial Estate in Wales. The company has recently achieved a development milestone after submitting a planning application to Bridgend County Borough Council.
Hyppo Hydrogen Solutions, located in South Wales, is a provider of hydrogen services, deploying resources and services to communities. Chris Foxall, CEO of Hyppo, commented, "Hydrogen-fuelled passenger vehicles such as cars and buses offer a pragmatic solution for decarbonising personal transport and provide immediate benefits like clean air, fast refuelling, and long-range capabilities. We are honoured to collaborate with Marubeni in conducting green hydrogen transport trials in Bridgend, thereby establishing it as a pioneering region for sustainable energy solutions in Wales."
Based on the positive feedback received from Bridgend residents and local stakeholders, the two companies intend to expand their transport services. Local customer Martin Ashe-Jones commended the zero-emission vehicles, stating, "The service was flawless, and the vehicles will contribute to the environment while supporting the local community."
