AFC Energy and Speedy Hire Announce Hydrogen Powered Generator Hire Business

AFC Energy and Speedy Hire have announced the launch of a dedicated hydrogen-powered generator plant hire business.

The collaboration will provide the UK construction and temporary power sector with AFC’s sustainable, zero emissions temporary power solution that is suitable for the off-grid power market.

The two companies will form a 50:50 joint venture, providing a full-service hire model co-ordinating the generator equipment, maintenance, technical support, site preparation and fuelling. AFC’s equipment will be available for hire exclusively through Speedy Hire for an initial three-year period.

The joint ventures first actions will be to purchase 30kW H-Power Generation from AFC Energy for a consideration of £2m in aggregate. The first of the systems will be available later this year (2023), before AFC and Speedy Hire plan to increase orders for the generators in line with the expected growing demand for zero emission power across the UK construction and temporary power markets.

Dan Evans, Chief Executive of Speedy Hire, said, “As a leader in product innovation and sustainability across the sectors we serve, we are pleased to announce our proposed collaboration with hydrogen experts AFC Energy to deliver scalable, modular zero emission power generators to the UK market and further deliver on our ambitious targets in our Velocity sustainable growth strategy.”

Adam Bond, AFC Energy Chief Executive, added, “The pressure to deliver zero emission power on construction sites here in the UK and overseas has seen strong growth in demand for AFC Energy’s H-Power Generators.

“Our collaboration with Speedy builds on the successful H-Power Tower launch last year and subsequent field-based deployments, many of whom are customers of Speedy, making our proposed collaboration all the more relevant.”

AFC was recently awarded up to £4.8m in funding from the UK Government’s red diesel programme. The grant recognised the field testing of AFC’s H-Power Tower generators on UK Construction sites over the past year and supports the company in accelerating the development and commercialisation of its next generation generators.
