MP's Attempt to Set New Recovery Standards

MPs are attempting to help operators to develop new safety standards for road side recovery as there have been a staggering amount of ‘cowboy’ operators circulating in the last few years.

A meeting at the House of Commons recently by hosted by Rob Flello MP, chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Freight Transport took place to discuss getting rid of the current PAS43 standard for the safety of vehicle breakdown and recovery systems, including roadside injuries and fatalities (which have been a concern for some time).

It is hoped that this new system will help the sector to illustrate their credibility and Flello described the meeting as contributing towards ‘an evolution’ of thePAS43. Flello also said “I believe the implementation of a recovery standard will give the sector the same level of demonstrable professionalism that the Corgi mark, now Gas Safe Register gave the gas service industry”. It has been determined that there needs to be a better way of regulating the PAS43’s and how some operators have achieved them by unfair means.
