Pallet Networks Overfilling Their Loads

The Pallet Network (TPN) has announced that pallet customers need further education on the dangers of overloading pallets after a record breaking 3.5 million pallets were shifted by APN (Association of Pallet Networks) during the first quarter of this year, over 4% higher than last year’s quarter.

Adam Leonard, the MD of TPN said “without doubt, incidents of customers over loading or over stacking pallets had increased since the onset of the recession and subsequent weak UK growth”. The normal pallet weight should be around 1,200kg or 1000kg for tail lift collections, but there has been a definite increase in weights of the pallets and an alarming amount have been recorded as over the weight limit for full pallets. Leonard also said “We are handling pallets sometimes over 1,200- 1,500kg at times in both the warehouse and on trucks whilst delivering, caused by the customer trying to claw back costs by adding more goods to each pallet”.
