Vosa Launching New Safety Sweep

Vosa has announced that they are intending to increase their enforcement efforts on vans and their operational standards.

Gordon Macdonald, the Vosa head of enforcement policy said that they were “determined to improve van operational standards and that they make no secret of its intention to significantly ramp up the number of roadside inspections and other enforcement activity”. This would include 20 additional roadside checks per quarter in towns and cities during this current financial year and will also introduce a communications compliance strategy to help and educate operators.

Macdonald also stated at the FTA Van Excellence Conference that Vosa is “increasing enforcement effort on light goods vehicles due to their high risk of harbouring mechanical defects and being overloaded". The data on vans shows that around 50% of vans pass their annual test on the first attempt. Now that there has been some additional funding the planned increase for enforcement would not affect other areas of enforcement.
