Growing Interest in Alternative Fuel Vehicles
A new survey by the RAC has discovered that more drivers than ever before would consider purchasing an alternative fuel car if they knew more about them. Out of the 1,400 motorists that were asked, almost half said that they were interested, and a quarter was expecting to make a greener purchase with regards to a car in the next five years.
This poll also showed that even though a number of participants were interested in a greener car, a quarter of motorists asked were anxious about the costs of having a car that runs on alternative fuel, as well as concerns about plug in cars. Around 75% of people knew nothing about the government’s new plug in car grant, which encourages people to buy a new plug in hybrid electric and hydrogen fuel celled car by offering them financial help.
“The plug-in car grant is a great incentive to encourage consumers to consider greener vehicles but it is clear that awareness remains relatively low and opinions on alternatively-fuelled vehicles are still mixed” said David Bizley, the RAC’s technical director. He also states that as the car is such a necessity to people’s everyday lives, new low carbon alternatives are now a reality as they are becoming more affordable and readily available so perceptions need to be changed to have any kind of benefit.
