Diesel Prices Drop 2p Per Litre Today
It was only three weeks ago that the budget froze petrol duty, now the war on diesel prices has begun.
Supermarket giants such as Morrisons and Sainsburys, followed by Britain’s largest supermarket chain Asda announced that they would be reducing their diesel by 2p a litre from this morning across the country.
Mark Todd, the director of petrol at Morrisons said “A drop in wholesale prices combined with an improved exchange rate has provided us with an opportunity to pass a saving onto customers”.
Jim Holder, Autocar editor praises the decision stating that diesel drivers been hit repeatedly with diesel prices and long-distance drivers may now gain some benefits. He does however warn new car buyers to be mindful of how many miles they expect to be driving, on whether it is advantageous with the price cuts on having a diesel car as opposed to petrol. "Motorists who drive less than 12,000 miles a year won’t travel far enough to see any savings from opting for a diesel powered car."
