Chancellor Announces No Fuel Duty Rise in September

The 2013 budget was revealed today in the Houses of Parliament that there would be no fuel duty increase this September as earlier proposed.

The chancellor George Osborne said that he had “listened” to the demands from PetrolPromise.com and decided to shelve the planned 3ppl fuel increase. The chancellor also stated that the decision to freeze fuel duty for the past two years has meant that fuel is currently 13ppl cheaper than it would have been if nothing had been done, which is apparently the equivalent to £6bn in tax revenue not being taken.

This decision has been welcomed by the RHA and FFUK are delighted with the decision and it is a great achievement for the fight towards increasing fuel duty. However, UK hauliers are still paying the highest in Europe on fuel duty. “We want the next step to be cutting the price of diesel” says Geoff Dunning, chief executive of the RHA.
