Yodel's Christmas Stats Steal Customers From Competitors
Over the busy Christmas period, Haulage company Yodel managed to successfully deliver over 14 million parcels during the peak Christmas weeks. This was achieved after heavy investment in planning and the boost of capacity through the hiring of new employees.
Around 16,000 new employees were added to the work force during 2012 to ensure they received full extended training before the hectic Christmas season began. As well as this, delivery throughout December was increased to 7 days a week- hard work but it paid off as many clients apparently transferred to Yodel as opposed to other firms, according to Yodels chairman, Dick Stead.
Yodel added that between 1st December and 24th of January, there was only a small amount of parcels that weren’t delivered and this was mainly due to the addressee being unable to sign for it or the address being inaccessible.
Chairman Dick Stead said “As always we will be reviewing our peak performance and seeking to work with our retail clients to innovate and further improve the service in 2013.” He went on to say that back in November, he predicted that they would receive volumes at the maximum of 4.25 million parcels during the busiest week in December.
