Emissions Could be Cut by 20% for Longer Heavier Vehicles


Research from the CV Show Forum has illustrated that heavy trucks could be made more fuel efficient whilst operating, as opposed to design stage through a change in the structure of delivering.

Voiced by David Cebon the research director of the Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium said that operators are forced to run vehicles through cities during morning rush hour due to the constraints of night time deliveries. He stated that if you could eliminate these night-time limitations, then fuel consumption could be reduced by as much as 50%. Cebon also argued that the use of LHV’s (longer heavier vehicles) can cut consumption by 20% at least and benefit the UK on an environmental level that will not affect safety. 

As well as these fuel reducing concepts, the use of hybrids on urban operations could see another 35% reductions, along with cutting out empty return legs cutting fuel consumption by another 40%.
