Parcel Carriers Experiencing ‘Boomerang Thursday’ with the Christmas Rush to Return Items

It appears that Christmas shopping has become such as dreaded task that shoppers are staying in the warm and relying on online shopping as opposed to tackling the crowds.

As online retail has increased, so have the online retail returns which have gone up to 15% more than last December. This is due to the high volumes of orders taken last Monday which then led to a quarter of these returns being sent back to the retailers on the Thursday. CollectPlus said that customers are happy to return items so long as they receive their replacements before Christmas.

Over 2 million retail parcels were delivered between the 25th and the 1st December rose by 19% from 2011. And the busiest regions with highest volume of retail parcels was the South East England seeing almost 300,000 parcels delivered. The Royal Mail is also managing to cash in on this online retail boom and saw a rise in £2 million from this time last year.
