Hybrid Canter from Mercedes-Benz to Improve Fuel Consumption
2013 will be hopeful for the new Fuso Canter Eco Hybrids trucks that expect to see a 23% improvement in fuel economy and consumption and aims to see their money back in only four years.
10 Canter hybrids were tested in London for three years by
TNT, DHL and other hauliers in what the manufacturer is calling “the first
financially viable hybrid truck”. The average fuel economy improvement was
10.7%, whereas a diesel vehicle achieved 16.2% improvement of fuel economy.
Sam Whittaker, the truck sales and marketing director, said
that “these figures would have improved by a further 5.7% if the trucks had
been fitted with the same anti-idling technology that production trucks have”.
He also claims that the addition of Duonic automatic transmission will help to
further boost fuel economy and that the Canter Eco Hybrid will be 23% more fuel
efficient than the diesel powered Canter equivalent.
