TOTAL acquire 5 new exploration blocks in East Africa

Today oil field giant TOTAL announced its acquisition of five offshore exploration blocks in the Lamu Basin Kenya

With a massive three and a half thousand square kilometre seismic survey underway, TOTAL hope that they will be able to start with exploration wells in the near future.

Using 3D modelling and the latest technology, Total's senior vice president of exploration Marc Blaizot reported “This transaction is part of a bold exploration strategy that consists in acquiring large stakes in high-potential frontier play” he continued "Recent discoveries in offshore Mozambique and Tanzania offer a very promising outlook for these Kenyan permits,"

Following their recent investments in both the exploration and development of reserves in Uganda, and their moves to develop in Tanzania, this acquisition is another step in TOTAL's strategic focus on strengthening its exploration to locate resources in the growing East African oil region.
