Commercial Vehicle Sales Down

Figures published by SMMT (Society of Motor manufacturers & traders) this week indicate a large drop in registrations for commercial vehicles.

Collectively registrations fell 42% during March, bringing the annual average down by over 20%. Less than 52000 trucks and less than quarter of a million vans in total for the year have been registered, 94415 less vehicles when compared to last year.

SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt commented “UK demand for vans and trucks remains low” he continued, “We think registrations may drop further. It will take time before any of the Chancellor's financial stimulus policies work, so we need the government to do more to stimulate demand and ease access to credit."

An exception to this trend is the Ford Motor Company who actually seen a growth in their sales of commercial vehicles last month demonstrating that budgets are being revised and cheaper alternatives are proving to be more popular.
