Oil industry sources are saying that suppliers of heating oil in Northern Ireland have been caught out by the sudden increase in demand, they are urging people not to panic buy as a result.

Orders have increased dramatically because of the recent cold spells which in turn have run stocks low, forcing some companies to quote a week delivery and one firm apparently running out completely.

Major terminals are waiting for deliveries to arrive by sea so restrictions have been applied to oil deliveries to distribution companies, this in turn has had a knock on effect of supply to the end user wanting to fill up their oil tank.
