Oil Spill

A cleanup operation is in place at a company in Scalloway, Shetland after waste oil spilled from a burst tank. The spillage, which took place in the early hours of Friday morning at MK Leslie Ltd, is thought to have leaked ~1000 litres of waste oil with some of it reaching the waters of East Voe.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency have been on site coordinating the tidy up together with help from Shetland Islands Council’s environmental health and harbor department and staff of MK Leslie Ltd.
The site will be cleared up as much as possible with land which has been severely contaminated being dug up, blooms have also been deployed to soak up and contain what oil had escaped into the sea.
An investigation is in place.
